A thwarted LADY MAUD (Geraldine James) runs off to her solicitors to start divorce proceedings, which gives SIR GILES (George Cole) his bright, revengeful idea - why not run the proposed new road through their own land, thereby destroying Lady Maud's ancestral home and getting rather a lot of compensation from the government into the bargain! But he hasn't reckoned on his wife's capacity to incite the gentle folk of Worford to riot, and the activities of BLOTT (David Suchet), the gardener and mystery man, who casts his enigmatic eye over the eccentricities of the great British aristocracy...
