When Jess’s son Danny is killed in a road accident, she is quick to blame his friend ROB (Paul Bettany) who was driving at the time. But somehow the tragedy draws JESS (Siobhan Redmond) and Rob together, and despite the outrage of Jess's family and the generation gap between the two, they fall in love. For a brief time, their relationship manages to avoid outside pressures, but events soon conspire to make them face the reality of their situation. Despite running away to Italy, they are forced to return and make a choice - to stay together, or go their separate ways.
